It's still early days for me on my natural hair journey. I created this blog to share tips on different things I have learned along the way.
It had been 30 years since I had seen my natural hair, and I am quickly learning that many of the practices I had with relaxed hair are a total no go with natural hair.
I never understood the importance of understanding the porosity of your hair and how that directly impacts the results you will achieve based upon the products you use.
But the biggest thing I did not understand is how adding heat to your curls will surely change your curl pattern.
Since doing my big chop, I have been styling with wash & go's exclusively. With every wash my curls became more defined and I was loving it!
So when it was time for me to get my hair trimmed, I had no idea that by blow drying my hair to achieve a precision cut, my curls would not curl the way they usually did until the moisture was restored.
Because I have short hair, I wash every 3 to 4 days. It took almost two washes for me to realize that what I really needed as a deep conditioner to add the moisture back. That finally did the trick.
If as a natural you like to wear your hair straight, totally go for it! We have fantastic diverse hair!
But if one day you decide to rock a wash and go and your curls are frizzy and undefined, it may just be because your tresses need some extra moisture and time to be reminded of their curl pattern.
